In this Noe Valley garden, HHALO took a deep dive into the cultural and material history of the SF neighborhood and focused on sourcing locally and crafting artfully.
Originally an overgrown row-house lot, the site plan is drawn out of the neighborhood's history as a quarry for the city of San Francisco. We focused on creating a gathering space for outdoor parties with a central fire pit feature. Plants had to be shade tolerant, wind tolerant and PURPLE!
This out-of-the-box backyard would not be possible without the immense openness and trust provided by our client Danny and the incredible skill of Manuel Fernandez of Green Footprint Landscaping. Thank you also to Jim Spahr at American Soil and Stone for the beautiful material. You still owe us a free boulder.
